Thanks for your opinion on the problems we are experiencing at Castlehill Fishery with 'amatuer' pike fishers. We as a business have tried various methods of confirming if people fishing for pike are genuine pike fishers, although we can see signs of this policy not working all the time, there are some good guys out there who do try their hardest to participate in the sport in a proper and humane manner. Pike fishermen now prbably make up about 20% of our regular fishers, please bear in mind that prior to us taking over the lease 7 years ago, there was no pike fishing allowed on this reservoir, this fishing was then run by Scottish Water. The only way pike fishermen could fish here was to poach the water. When we took over here we introduced our existing policy of any legal method fishing, this has been slowly successful to the extent that we now have a fishery where anyone is welcome to fish. Bait, fly & spinning was introduced by us also, previously the water was fly only. Although we are perfectly happy to have pike fishermen at our water, we are predominatly a Rainbow Trout Fishery. we advertise on our website that there is pike fishing also on our water, but please remember that any reputation gained at Castlehill as a Pike water is coming from our regular pike guys like yourself. We do not claim to have all the answers across the board, but we make a damn good job of the business we run from the trout perspective. We are by far the cheapest non-subsidised fishery in Central Scotland, and believe it or not we do stock this water every fortnight throughout the season. If we ever become experts at running this Fishery, then we will be the first ever to be so. We welcome the pike fishers with open arms, mainly because they are mostly very decent knowledgable guys. We are trying hard to do it right, have patience. David
